How a session border controller fits in

What is an SBC?

A 3CX Session Border Controller (SBC) is a service installed in your local network that lets you easily connect remote IP phones to your 3CX instance in the cloud — delivering SIP (signaling) and RTP (media) VoIP packets to your cloud PBX and overcoming firewall and networking issues that affect reliability.

When to use an SBC

Use an SBC when you need to connect remote IP phones, users, or even separate 3CX instances (bridging) — regardless of location — to an office PBX in the cloud. This includes the 3CX apps and softphones for Windows, Mac, iOS, and Android.
